Now that I have seen {The Village of Korah}

He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—he remains faithful forever. He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the foreigner and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked. -Psalms 146:6-9
In Ethiopia, we visited several orphanages, but the place that captured my heart was Korah. Korah is a village within the capital city, Addis Ababa. It was originally a leper colony. Korah is located next to the trash dump. Most of the people in Korah, live off of the trash dump, daily collecting food, clothing, anything they can resell. Over a year ago, a woman named Sumer, went to Korah. She visited the trash dump. She saw the children working there. When she came home, she decided that something must be done. She, and her family and friends, started Project 61. Through sponsorships, they take these children from the dump and put them in school, feed them, clothe them, teach them, love them. They have taken over 300 children from Korah and given them a hope and a future.
When we arrived at Project 61, we were greeted by happy, smiling beautiful faces. You don’t need to have things to have joy. Each of the children in Project 61 are so thankful for the opportunity. It is amazing to see in person. My friend, fellow-photographer and recent visitor to Korah, Wynne and I have partnered together to help these children get school uniforms and supplies. We are selling prints of some of our images from Korah. These prints all have messages of hope to remind you to pray for our precious friends from Korah.
